ZTE Showcases Its Second Generation Under-Display Camera Technology at MWC Shanghai 2021

Today (February 23, 2021) ZTE showcased its second generation of under-display camera technology at the MWC Shanghai 2021 event. It is the successor to the first under-display camera technology and comes with various enhancements.

For those who don't know, Mobile World Congress is a major event where various tech giants come to showcase their new and innovative technologies. So far, various companies have announced their achievements in areas such as 5G, artificial intelligence, smart home, smart travel, and other innovations. ZTE also held a conference call at the event and unveiled its second generation of under-display camera screen technology. Axon 20 5G became the first device with a new type of display released last year.

Since then, the company has made improvements to the new display technology, one of the main improvements being the pixel density in the camera area. While the first iteration came with a pixel density of 200ppi, the second generation display panel has a pixel density of 400ppi. In other words, the screen will be able to display sharper and clearer images. In addition, the company is also aiming to provide a more stable home screen display.

Another notable improvement is the panel refresh rate as the new screen has a 120Hz refresh rate. This is higher than the 90Hz seen in the first generation using ZTE's display camera technology. During the event, the company also showcased the world's first under-screen structured 3D lighting technology. It will provide 3D face recognition and real-time detection, which is better than various existing 2D solutions. This means that it is currently one of the most reliable and secure biometric technologies that can also be used for 3D modeling, augmented reality and other applications.
