According to the report AppleInsiderThe Cupertino giant is working to improve the reception of its WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, UWB and other antenna functions. The company is working to add additional functionality to Apple Watch components by building antennas into them. In other words, these different components can essentially serve the purpose of enhancing wireless reception in different parts of the smartwatch.

In a recent patent entitled "Electronic Devices with Millimeter Wave Capability", a "phased array antenna" was discovered. This means that instead of using one bulky antenna under the hood that takes up too much space for an insider, the company wants to distribute it using smaller antennas built into different parts and throughout the chassis. Essentially, the proliferation of a "wireless communication scheme".

In addition, integrating the antennas at different locations / diversity would improve wireless signal reception. The patent application details several different ways to add a phased array antenna, claiming to help “transmit the first signals on a first frequency between 10 GHz and 300 GHz, and a non-millimeter-wave antenna to transmit second signals on a second frequency below 10 GHz. “It is currently unknown if the company will actually implement this in future Apple Watch, so stay tuned.
