ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 Review: An Inexpensive $ 160 Quadcopter

Today I want to tell you about an updated drone model called ZLRC SG906 Pro 2. Earlier ZLRC showed good drone models, but what will the new inexpensive drone look like and how will it show itself in my full review?

Before talking about its functionality, let's take a look at the prices. Now you can get the ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 device at a pretty attractive price - just $ 160.

For this price, you get a good drone that can shoot 4K video and has GPS and 5G WIFI support. In addition, the drone was equipped with a 3-axis optical stabilizer.

On my site, drones are very rare devices. Therefore, I will try to briefly and concisely tell you about the new product, what it is capable of and for whom it is suitable.

Therefore, first I want to look at the complete set and find out how the drone itself is assembled, and then I will tell you my impressions of the flight, video quality and much more. More.

Unpacking and packing

The updated quadcopter model comes in a small box. It is made in white, and on the front side you can find a drawing of the drone with its name and some technical characteristics.

Inside the box, I found the quadcopter itself, which was folded. From myself, I can note that when folded it takes up quite a lot of space compared to the unfolded legs.

To the right of the quadcopter was a remote control joystick. When folded, it is almost the same size as the drone itself. In addition, the kit includes two 7,4V and 2800mAh batteries, a Type-C power cable, spare blades and an instruction manual.

In general, the equipment is very good, but I also want to note the opportunity to buy a separate protective bag. If you travel often or are just going to fly a quadcopter and do not want to accidentally break it, then this will be a good buy.

Design, assembly and materials used

It's easy to guess that the ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 is a WiFi FPV and GPS quadcopter. Therefore, its weight and dimensions are not as large as those of more professional models. For example, this model weighs about 551,8 grams and measures 174x84x70 when folded and 283x253x70 mm when unfolded.

The entire body is made of durable matte plastic, which is very good for a quadcopter. Of course, this model is intended for beginners and therefore will not do without accidental falls.

The build quality of the drone itself is pretty good. Yes, compared to other flagship models, more expensive devices will have a slightly better build. But given its price tag of just over $ 150, I don't see any major build issues. In my case, the mechanism of retractable knives is durable and there are no complaints about it.

The company logo is on the top of the case. But there is a groove for the battery at the bottom of the drone body. As you can imagine, it is removable, which is a good sign. For example, I have two batteries and if one runs out, I can install the other and fly some more.

On the front panel, you can see the camera module. The sensor itself is located on a triaxial stabilizer. The manufacturer promises a very smooth picture of the video, but I will definitely check it and tell you a little later.

Now a few words about the joystick control. As I said, its dimensions are almost the same as that of the drone itself, only folded. There are two joysticks on the top front. They can control the quadcopter in all axes.

There is also a small monochrome LED screen at the bottom. The following indicators can be monitored on the screen. These are GPS signal quality, number of satellites, altitude, range, various modes and battery level.

There is a telescopic connection at the top of the joystick. The smartphone must be installed so that you can observe the picture during the flight from the drone. Looking ahead, I want to say that the device is connected via a mobile application, but more on that later.

Well, I guess I've covered all the looks and build quality, but now let's see how to connect the app and which ones to calibrate the device.

Functions, connectivity and first flight

I found it hard to believe that the new ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 received 4K video recording as written on the official website and store. But when I got the drone for the test, I realized from the first test that the drone only shoots in HD resolution.

As it turned out, the ZLRC company came up with a clever marketing ploy. Writes that the device supports 4K video recording, but in fact a 720p module is installed here. A little information about the sensor itself, the drone uses an 8-megapixel Sony IMX179 module.

Yes, it was silly to expect high resolution from an inexpensive drone, but I believed in the marketing ploy. So don't be fooled by this trick.

Ok, now I want to tell you how to connect the drone to the smartphone app and understand all the functions.

The first thing to do is install a charged battery in the ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 quadrocopter itself. Then press the power button and calibrate the compass. To execute it, you need to press the photo button on the joystick and hold it until the signal. Then rotate four times vertically and horizontally around the axis until the bee signal. This is the simplest and easiest calibration method.

Ok, in order to launch your device into the air, you now need to connect the app. The app itself was named HFun Pro and is available for various devices on both Android and iOS.

After simply connecting the drone to the app, let's talk about the basic functions. There are sections such as instruction, recording, calibration, setup and start-up. In the settings section, I can select languages, only three languages are available in total. There is also a setting to turn recording on and off, get an update, turn on stabilization and 4K correction.

After calibration, I waited a little for a good GPS connection and now I can launch the drone into the air.

My first impression during the flight is that the quadcopter flies in the air very smoothly and without strong jerks. It has a fairly high speed and can fly through the air quite quickly. But the big problem with the ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 is poor application optimization. It kept crashing and I often had to reload the app to see the flight picture.

As for the functions, for example, tracking the GPS signal through the joystick and smartphone works very poorly. The same applies to the tracking function, it does not work correctly and it is difficult to call it workable. In terms of the three dots function, it works pretty well and I have no harsh comments.

Now about the characteristics of the flight. The quadcopter can fly 1200 meters away from the joystick and gain an altitude of about 800 meters. The flight time from one battery charge was about 25 minutes. And if you have two fully charged batteries, you can fly in less than 1 hour.

ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 Review: An Inexpensive $ 160 Quadcopter

A little about the sad, as the manufacturer writes about the three-axis camera stabilizer. But in practice, the picture turns out to be very bad, the image stabilization does not work correctly and the picture on the video jumps. Maybe this is due to problems with the firmware and in the future the manufacturer will fix it and the device will shoot without jumps.

Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons

ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 - the drone can hardly be called ideal, since a large number of functions work incorrectly and poorly.

Yes, it is difficult to expect great performance from a quadcopter given its low cost. But if we talk about the quality of the assembly, the materials used, then in this case the drone has a positive side.

If filming isn't the best part of a drone, the way it flies is mostly positive. For example, the drone now flies much smoother than its previous models, and its flight speed and flight time are quite high.

Price and where to buy cheaper?

At the moment, you can buy the ZLRC SG906 Pro 2 quadcopter at a nice price for only $ 159,99 with a 16% discount.

If you are a beginner and are just trying to get a taste of flying, the prices of flagship drones are quite high for you. Then the SG906 Pro 2 model will definitely suit you, both for training and for the first flights.
