Huawei has released an updated version of its flagship 2019 for the global market: Huawei P30 Pro New edition. A pretty nice trick to avoid the restrictions of the ban in the United States and bring the flagship with Google services and applications to the shelves.
Yes, because in case you do not know, Huawei can no longer install Google services on its new devices, as it lost its Android license due to a ban in the USA. But besides the availability of Google services “out of the box”, is it worth buying the Huawei P30 Pro edition of 2020, or is it better to choose other Huawei flagships?

Design
Despite the fact that it has a 2019 design and a classic recess instead of a double hole, like the Huawei P40, the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition has a beautiful design. It is beautiful enough, not only because of the high screen-to-body ratio and curved screen, but also because of its elegant and clean glass.
The camera modules of the Huawei P40 and Huawei Mate 30 are large, and like many people, I am not a fan of large camera modules. In addition, the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition is the only one that offers IP68 certification, which makes it waterproof and dustproof, while the Huawei P40 and Huawei Mate 30 are only IP53 certified, which makes them dustproof and splashproof.
Huawei Mate 30 looks uglier due to its larger slot, but unlike the P30 Pro New Edition, it has a 3D face recognition system (the Huawei P40 also has one). The Huawei P40 is much smaller due to its much smaller display.
Display
Huawei P30 Pro New Edition, Huawei P40 and Huawei Mate 30 are equipped with an OLED display that provides similar quality. The Huawei P30 Pro New Edition and Mate 30 are a bit more interesting as they support HDR10 technology.
Huawei Mate 30 has the widest panel (6,62 inches), so it is better for productive users. As we mentioned above, Huawei P40 is much more compact, because its display has a diagonal of only 6,1 inches. Huawei P30 Pro New Edition is located in the middle with a diagonal of 6,47 inches.
Hardware and software
Huawei P40 and Huawei Mate 30 run on the Kirin 990 mobile platform, support 5G connectivity and pack up to 8 GB of RAM. In its high-performance version, the Huawei P40 has more internal memory than the Huawei Mate 30: up to 256 GB.
The Huawei P30 Pro New Edition still runs on the 980 Kirin 2019 chipset, has worse performance than its two internal competitors and does not support 5G. On the other hand, it is the only one with Google apps and services out of the box.
Camera
The Huawei P40 has the best primary sensor included in the rear camera department, but the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition has the best secondary sensors, including a periscope lens with 5x optical zoom, an ultra-wide 20MP sensor and a 3D TOF sensor that isn’t on its two opponents .
The Huawei P40 also offers the best video recording experience and the best front camera department, including a TOF 3D IR sensor for 3D face recognition.
Battery
Despite the fact that it has the same capacity as the Huawei Mate 30, the 4200 mAh battery installed in the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition usually provides longer battery life than the Mate 30, since the phone comes with less display and without 5G.
Please note that the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition and the Huawei Mate 30 support wireless charging (at higher speeds on the Mate 30) and reverse wireless charging, while the Huawei P40 only supports wired charging, as well as a smaller battery.
Price
Worldwide, the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition costs 800 euros / 888 dollars, like the Huawei P40. You can find the Huawei Mate 30 for less than € 700 / $ 777 thanks to prices in offline stores. If cameras are not your priority, it makes sense to save some money and get the Huawei Mate 30, since it offers almost the same equipment as the Huawei P40.
In fact, you should buy the P30 Pro New Edition only if you care about the installed Google services. Huawei P40 is a compact alternative for those who need amazing cameras, but excluding cameras, the Huawei Mate 30 is better.
