MediaTek Dimensity 7000 will be between Snapdragon 870 and 888

More recently, the Taiwanese MediaTek launched its new flagship in the face of Dimensity 9000. But, as you understand, there will be chips for lower categories. Among them, the first and most anticipated model will be the MediaTek Dimensity 7000 mid-range chip. It will be in the upper mid-range category and will hit the market in 2022. In fact, there is no specific launch date, but the information comes from a well-known Weibo blogger. Thus, the information we received must be reliable.

The source claims that the MediaTek Dimensity 7000 chipset has entered the testing phase. It should use TSMC's 5nm manufacturing process and use the new ARM V9 architecture. Thus, the two key parameters of the upcoming chip are identical to those specified in the higher-end Dimensity 9000.

However, there are still a few months left before the Dimensity 7000 hits the market. We mean it's too early to talk about clock speed and processor configuration. But the same clue proves that the chip will sit comfortably between the Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 888 in terms of performance.

If so, Dimensity 7000 will appear in many smartphones. To understand what parameters it can come with, let's recall the key features of the two Qualcomm chips mentioned.

Specifications Snapdragon 870

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 combines a fast "Prime Core" that clocks up to 3,2GHz and three additional ARM Cortex-A77 performance cores at up to 2,42GHz. There are also four power-saving ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 1,8GHz.

We are dealing with a 5G chip. Thus, the Qualcomm X55 5G modem with Sub-5 and mmWave support and global 5G bands at up to 7,5 Gb/s is expected. At the same time, the chip supports WiFi 6 thanks to the SmartConnect 6800 modem. However, in terms of graphics, it still uses the Adreno 650, which offers a clock speed of 670 MHz.

There is a Hexagon 698 DSP that is capable of delivering KI performance up to 15 TOPS. And the SPI Spectra 480 supports 8K video recording and 200 megapixel photos. The chipset is produced in a 7nm process.

Specifications Snapdragon 888

Speaking of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, we must understand that everything about this SoC is perfect. This is the most powerful chip in the Android camp. The SoC uses Samsung's 5nm manufacturing node. A single "Prime Core" based on the ARM Cortex-X1 architecture is clocked at up to 2,84GHz. The three A78 cores are rated at 2,42GHz. Finally, four power-saving cores clocked at up to 1,8 GHz.

In terms of connectivity, it supports the more advanced WiFi 6e network. For 5G, it integrates a Snapdragon X60 modem. Hexagon 780 DSP (up to 26 TOPS of AI performance) and Spectra 580 ISP provide superior shooting performance.
