In early March, Meizu launched its 2021 flagship smartphones - the Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro. Apart from new hardware, these devices also come with a new version of the company's mobile software - Flyme 9 based on Android 11. Today, as part of its April Fools Day giveaway, Meizu has been trolling the competition, hinting at the strengths of the latest version of its Android skin.
Nowadays, phones from all manufacturers have identical hardware. They differ only in design and software. Each Android phone manufacturer has its own interface to differentiate it from the competition. In fact, software plays a key role in purchasing decisions.
But unfortunately, despite improving the user experience, some companies have recently been disrupting the UX (user interface) by injecting ads, malware, push notifications, and more. The most popular OEMs known for this are Xiaomi ( MIUI ) and [19459003] Samsung ( One interface ).
Having sorted out such companies, Meizu posted an April Fools' Day Giveaway on Weibo. In this post, the Chinese smartphone maker trolled the companies with ads in their user interface by announcing a new version of their latest flagship phones called Meizu 18 Ad Edition and [19459003] Meizu 18 Pro Ad Edition respectively.
The company goes on to say that this new variant of the Meizu 18 series will prompt users throughout the day with push notifications. Plus, it will come with 999 apps pre-installed.
The latest and greatest feature of the new Meizu Episode 18 is that full page ad on these phones can be closed after 999 seconds. The company claims it could help smartphone-addicted youth.
One might wonder why Meizu is focusing on these three points. Because with Flyme 9, the company has cut ads, push notifications and pre-installed apps to offer a "clean OS experience."
