Windows 10X leak reveals support for Win32 apps

Back in 2019, the platform Windows 10X was announced as a modular and lightweight version of the Windows 10 operating system. Microsoft said the OS will also support Win32 applications, although reports have shown that this may not have been the case with the first version of the new OS.

Now, a new leaked build of Windows 10X has revealed that the new operating system can still run with development tools for Win32 apps. According to the report WindowsPhoneInfoThe latest build of Windows 10X includes a new developer setting that allows users to download "unsigned apps", including desktop apps. Looking at the screenshot of this new setting, Microsoft obviously created a dedicated settings page for this feature.

The settings option opens a page for container technology and a developer-only toggle that involves testing a Win32 application. At the moment this feature does not work, although it might only be in the event of an OS build leak. As described in the setting: “Enabling this setting will allow unassigned applications to run. Allowing all applications on your device to run can harm your device or data. " Keep in mind that simply enabling the setting will prevent users from installing and running regular desktop (.exe) apps on Windows 10X, which are expected to be released later this year.

However, this means that Microsoft plans to add support for Win32 applications sometime in the future. This means that developers will soon be able to test their applications on a lightweight OS. Until then, you will likely have to run UEP apps from the Microsoft Store and Progressive Web Apps. So stay tuned for the upcoming Windows 10X OS.
