In these metrics, Huawei Technologies has surpassed US giant Qualcomm in performance, indicating tremendous R&D gains, even in the extreme market conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, coupled with US export restrictions still in place.

In the ten months from January to October 2020, the company filed 8 wireless patents, surpassing the 607 patents filed by US chipmaker Qualcomm in the same period.

Growing smartphone maker OPPO and Beijing-based database provider incoPat further solidified China's position at the top of the rankings this year. Oppo followed Qualcomm in third place with 5 patents filed in 353.

China and the United States account for about 65% of world patents, and Japan and South Korea - 15 and 7 percent, respectively.

The list is based on publicly available wireless patent data, including next-generation 5G mobile network technology, incoPat claims.

The report ( via) noted that wireless communication network technology is a fundamental component of modern communications, providing a foothold and catalyst for the rapid development of technologies that have been the basis of groundbreaking research in 5G communications.

As the report points out, there is intense competition in wireless networking technologies, and this is an important and strategic choice for companies to face international competition.

As such, Huawei Technologies intends to continue to lead in innovation as the race for 5G Eldorado continues to skyrocket amid the excessive market restrictions imposed on it by the United States.
