One of the most anticipated smartphones to arrive in the first quarter of 2021 is the series OnePlus 9. As you would expect, there have been several leaks related to the OnePlus flagship series and others are still popping up. Prominent informant Digital Chat Station has hinted that the Oneplus 9 series will not feature periscope lenses on either model. 
The use of a periscope lens is rapidly gaining popularity among OEMs, and this lens offers tremendous opportunities for mobile photography. In most cases, original equipment manufacturers produce a flagship with a periscope lens, usually on the topmost model. 
OnePlus is expected to release three new models next year, but apparently none of them will feature a periscope telephoto lens. The Digital Chat Station message is the second time this rumor has surfaced. This was first reported back in November, when several CAD-based renders of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro surfaced online.

The renders suggest the device will come with four rear cameras, but none of them will be a periscope lens. However, it hasn't been explained why the device won't have a periscope lens. In addition, there is no official message from Oneplus yet confirming or refuting the rumor that the OnePlus 9 lacks a periscope lens. 
Considering that periscope lenses are a popular technology implemented by companies such as Huawei, Samsung, OPPO, Realme and Xiaomi... The OnePlus 9 Pro is expected to feature two notable camera modules and two smaller lenses. 
This year's OnePlus flagship, the OnePlus 8 Pro and Find X2 Pro, were very similar in hardware. The Find X2 Pro telephoto lens has a 5x optical zoom periscope lens, while the OP8 Pro has a modest 3x zoom. As such, the OnePlus 9 Pro was expected to address this inconsistency, but ultimately it may not.
