After much speculation and false leaks Xiaomi officially entered the foldable device segment with the Mi Mix Fold earlier this year. The first foldable devices were inspired by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold with an 8,01-inch foldable display with an internal hinge and QHD + resolution. The device has top-notch specs like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and 108MP camera. A few months have passed and Xiaomi has officially kicked off its 2022 season with today's launch of the Xiaomi 12 series. The company can now switch to the Xiaomi 12 Ultra as well as the Mi Mix Fold 2.
The first leaks about this upcoming foldable design are starting to surface and it is said that it will feature a Samsung UTG display. Meanwhile Xiaomi foldable smartphone passed via the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) with the S Pen. Maybe this is the design of the upcoming Mi Mix Fold 2?
Xiaomi may be working on a new foldable smartphone, which could pretty much be the Mi Mix Fold 2 or perhaps a device of the future. The patent has been filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent application contains images of a foldable smartphone. The folding mechanism is similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. There is a hinge that separates the foldable display. Thumbnails do not reveal specifications or display size. However, it does reveal a smart stylus. The stylus is magnetically attached to the side of the foldable smartphone. The images also show that the volume and power buttons are on the right side of the bezel. The left edge is where the stylus is magnetically attached.

Unfortunately, the technical specifications or the name of this device remain a mystery. It could be Mix Mix Fold 2 or something that Xiaomi is working on for a future release. The fact is that the company keeps its intellectual property in order to protect it from competitors. In any case, the inclusion of a stylus in the upcoming Mi Mix Fold seems very plausible. Samsung has added support for it in the Galaxy Z Fold3, which uses the latest ultra-thin glass solution. The upcoming Mi Mix Fold will also use this solution, which gives the display enough stamina to withstand the use of a stylus.
So far, we can only speculate. Xiaomi itself is busy releasing its Xiaomi 12 series, MIUI 13 and a new smartwatch series. We assume we will learn more about the company's foldable device in the second quarter of 2022.
