Amazon acquires Selz, a platform to enable users to launch online stores

Amazon, the world's leading online retailer, has announced the acquisition of Selz, which makes tools to help businesses open their own online stores. Thanks to this, the retail giant has now entered Shopify territory.

A blog post posted by Selz announcing this new deal , showsthat Amazon bought the e-commerce platform last month, January 15th. However, Amazon did not publicly announce the deal at the time.

Confirming the acquisition, Martin Rusch, founder and CEO of Selz, said: "We have signed an agreement to acquire Amazon and look forward to working with them as we continue to build easy-to-use tools for entrepreneurs."

While Amazon also confirmed the deal, the company did not disclose terms or financial information related to the acquisition. The Selz founder said "nothing changes" for customers as a result of the Amazon acquisition.

It remains to be seen how Amazon plans to use Selz. The company's tools could give the American e-commerce giant a competitive edge over the likes of Shopify and BigCommerce, among others.

Selz was founded in 2013 and is based in Sydney, Australia. The company provides a platform for small and medium-sized businesses to launch their own online stores and add online payment options to existing websites, among other tools.
