The L in Android 12L stands for large screens, as this release focuses on adapting the new OS from Google for devices such as tablets, foldables and ChromeOS devices.
Google announced that Android 12L will be available from 2022, "just in time for the next wave of Android 12 tablets and foldable devices." As of now, a developer preview of the update is available for use in an emulator on the Lenovo P12 Pro tablet.

In addition to this, there will also be a public beta of Pixels, but the features will not be as easily noticeable as the Pixels screens are much smaller than tablets or foldables.
The company reports that in 2020 alone, about a quarter of a billion ChromeOS devices, tablets and foldables are running Android, of which 100 million are new Android tablets. That's a 20% increase over the same period last year, with foldable devices and laptops with ChromeOS also growing steadily.
This new user interface is designed to be used on a large screen with notifications, lock screens, home screens and quick settings, all receiving updates or changes. There will be a new two-column layout with system apps optimized for this new update for tablets and foldable devices.
What else does it give?
Multitaskers will be happy to know that Android 12L will bring with it a new taskbar that will allow users to quickly switch between the apps they like, which will also make it easier to use split screen mode as all users will have to use this feature. You can also drag and drop any application of your choice, and all applications support this mode in this new version.
Developers will need to update their apps to accommodate the different types of screens and sizes offered, providing three different size classes: one for smartphones (compact), one for foldable (medium), and extended for tablets and computers.
In the Google Play store, users will receive a warning about apps incompatible with large screens, with new app quality checks in line with the new big screen guidelines for Googles, with new app ratings. for new big screen apps.
