Next Generation ARM GPU Computing Power 30% Higher Than Mali-G710

A few days ago, ARM announced that its total chip shipments exceeded 200 billion. Apparently, it has grown into the second largest CPU architecture developer and continues to expand its application areas. The latest CPU is Cortex-X2 and the latest GPU is Mali-G710. A few days ago at the Developer Summit, Ian Bratt, Senior CTO of ARM's Machine Learning Division, unveiled the next-generation GPU architecture. The company will officially release this GPU in 2022.

Although he did not reveal the name of this chip, he claims that the single precision floating point (FP32) processing power will be 4,7 times that of the existing Mali-G76. The histogram above shows a comparison between Mali-G77 / G78 / G710. The 2022 GPU is projected to have an increase in processing power of about 30% over the G710. After all, the increase in computing power of the G710 in comparison with the G78 is 35%. In fact, ARM itself also highlighted that the next iteration plans to increase computing power by 30% to meet the high computing needs of artificial intelligence.

MediaTek partners with ARM and Tencent to bring ray tracing to mobile devices

Geraint North, Senior Director of Ecosystems and Engineering at Arm, said: “Future Mali GPUs will dramatically improve the performance of ray tracing technology on mobile devices through hardware acceleration. Arm's collaboration with MediaTek and Tencent Games in this area will make it easier for developers to explore the benefits of ray tracing for mobile gaming, ensuring that content with the technology can be ported to cross-platform devices across a variety of ecosystems, further enhancing the gaming experience. ... "

Additionally, MediaTek announced in a press release that he will continue research and development in the field of graphics; continuous expansion of core technologies of the MediaTek HyperEngine game engine to provide rendering effects to games. The goal is to help game developers and device manufacturers offer realistic game graphics and take them to the next level.

Also, Dr. Yumin Cao, Business Unit, MediaTek Computing and Artificial Intelligence Technology Group; said, “Working with Arm and Tencent Games allows us to implement cutting-edge graphics technology; for example, ray tracing in mobile 5G chips of the Dimensity series. Using the MediaTek ray tracing SDK. The solution enables game developers to leverage new technologies to enhance immersive gaming experiences. Currently, tens of millions of smartphones around the world use Dimensity 5G series mobile chips; and we will provide a wider range of users with more vivid and realistic visuals. "
