As the main earbuds, Redmi's TWS AirDots 2 have captured a significant portion of the market thanks to their low price and skilled experience. Now Redmi has announced its successor, AirDots 3.
New model sold by higher price without any noticeable change in appearance. This brings us to the big question: does it offer a better experience than Airdots 2 to justify its price hike?
Let's find it out in this quick AirDots 3 review.

Redmi AirDots 3 review: design
Although the shape looks the same, many details have actually changed. AirDots 3 feels more perfect than AirDots 2 when you hold the case in your hand. While its predecessor was so light it felt like a toy, the AirDots 3 with its 51g body doubled the battery capacity, improving both practicality and feel.
The entire body is made of matte leather-like material. It is very comfortable to touch, which is a huge improvement over the plastic case of the AirDots 2.
Redmi has finally provided us with new color solutions. AirDots 3 is available in white, blue and pink. And it looks brighter than its predecessor. The pairing button is now integrated and the charging port is also Type C. This also confirms that Redmi has indeed made a few key changes to its appearance.
The redesign of the earphone is not easy to spot unless you look closely. Physical touch and touch controls have been replaced with touch controls. Two taps on the right earbud pause or play music. Two taps on the left earphone will wake up the voice assistant.
The earbuds have an additional infrared sensor. Music pauses automatically when you remove the earbuds. Music plays automatically when you put on the headphones. This is a feature that you usually only see on expensive headphones. But Redmi has put this feature in that price range, which is very practical.

Redmi AirDots 3 review: sound quality
But the updates to Airdots 3 are not limited to its design. The biggest improvement is audio quality and latency. For the first time, Airdots 3 has dual drivers. It also uses the Qualcomm QCC3040 chip, which supports aptX Adaptive.
The dynamic driver and armature driver can guarantee good high and low frequency sound quality. aptX Adaptive automatically selects between high definition and low latency modes depending on whether you are listening to music or playing games. This is a Bluetooth protocol that even many high-quality headphones don't have.
In our test, we found that the sound quality is indeed better than the SBC-only headphones. But the waiting time for the game depends on your phone. If you are using the Redmi K40 series, the lag is so low that you hardly notice it. If you are using any other phone, even the Mi 11, there will be a decent lag.
All in all, you can buy Airdots 3 for sound quality. If you are using the K40 series, you should buy TWS earbuds.
Airdots 3 can still be configured to work through the XiaoAI app. Pop-up animation of opening the lid is also supported. Apart from noise cancellation, the functions of the app are almost identical to those of the Xiaomi Air2 Pro.

Redmi AirDots 3 review: battery
The earbuds can be used for 7 hours. The charging case adds an extra 30 hours. The Airdots 3 is definitely top notch when it comes to battery life.
So, AirDots 3 are entry-level headphones that perform just as well as mid-range headphones. In China, it is only 199 yuan, or about $ 31. If you want aptX protocol at a budget price, there is practically no alternative to the new Redmi headphones. And if you have a Redmi K40 series phone, this is the perfect companion.
