Shared kernel source code for Redmi Note 10 Pro (Max) could trigger a flurry of custom firmwares

Last week Xiaomi released Redmi Note 10 series [19459002] for global markets. There are five devices in the lineup. They haven't gone on sale yet, but the company has already released kernel source code for Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 10 Pro Max.

For those who don't know, the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max announced for India is called Redmi Note 10 Pro in other markets. However, the Redmi Note 10 Pro presented in India is exclusive to that region at the moment. All three phones have a common codename - "sweet".

Their individual codenames are shown below.

Since these phones have identical specifications except for the main camera, they share a common core. Hence they basically use the same assembly MIUI with regional changes.

This means that custom ROMs for these three smartphones should be available in a single variant. In other words, they will have common custom ROM builds.

Hence, the new Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 10 Pro Max have a chance to become the most popular Redmi Note devices in the custom ROM community after Notes redmi 5 Pro (otherwise Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera).

If you don't know the series Redmi Note has always been popular when developing third-party software. But this streak has been cut short with the last few generations due to multiple devices in the series and different availability in different regions.

Now that the same device with a common core is being sold in all regions with some minor changes and different names, we can expect more custom ROMs, kernels and other modifications as soon as developers get access to these smartphones.
