Xiaomi has released a brand new flagship killer for the Chinese market: Redmi K40 Pro+... It is rumored that the K40 series will hit the global market under the POCO brand, but the appearance of this device in the global market has not yet been confirmed. Meanwhile, given its amazing specs, we think it's worth comparing it to one of the latest flagships Samsung has launched. Given the specs and price range of the K40 Pro +, we decided to compare it to the base variant of the Galaxy S21 series: vanilla Samsung Galaxy S21.

Design
The Samsung Galaxy S21 has a slightly more futuristic design than the Redmi K40 Pro +, at least in my opinion. I love its minimalist camera module, but on the other hand, the K40 Pro + offers great materials, including a glass back. The Samsung Galaxy S21 has a plastic back, but it has a front bezel protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and an aluminum frame. The Samsung Galaxy S21 is even waterproof with IP68 certification, while the K40 Pro + only offers splash protection with IP53 certification. Last but not least, the Samsung Galaxy S21 is much smaller and lighter.
Display
Samsung Galaxy S21 and Redmi K40 Pro + are very close in display quality. Both feature an AMOLED display with vibrant colors, deep blacks, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10 + certification and a high peak brightness of 1300 nits. Note that they have high quality displays, but not the best ones. Their resolution is Full HD + and they provide excellent picture quality, but you can actually find higher quality displays like the Galaxy S21 Ultra or OPPO Find X3 Pro. The biggest difference between these displays is the diagonal: you get 6,67 inches with the K40 Pro + and just 6,2 inches with the Samsung Galaxy S21. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S21 has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner (actually better) and the K40 Pro + has an optical fingerprint scanner.
Technical specifications and software
The European version of the Samsung Galaxy S21 is the most disappointing as it comes with the worst Exynos 2100 chipset (which is actually inferior, especially in terms of power management). The US version of the Samsung Galaxy S21 and Redmi K40 Pro + is equipped with the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, but you actually get more RAM with the Redmi K40 Pro + (12GB). The phones run Android 11 out of the box, and Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S21 will receive three years of major Android updates and four years of security updates.
Camera
The winner in the camera comparison is the Samsung Galaxy S21 Unlike the Redmi K40 Pro +, it is equipped with optical image stabilization and a telephoto lens with optical zoom. It consists of a 12MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. It also provides the best 10MP front camera that can record 4K video at 60fps. Both phones support 8K video recording from the rear camera. Don't be fooled by the camera resolution: as you just read, just because the Redmi K40 Pro + has a 108MP main camera doesn't mean it's a better camera phone than the Samsung Galaxy S21.

Battery
The Redmi K40 Pro + offers longer battery life thanks to a larger 4520mAh battery, but unlike the Samsung Galaxy S21, it lacks wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. With the Redmi K40 Pro +, you get faster charging speeds thanks to 33W wired charging technology, but considering that the battery is larger, the charging times of the two phones are the same.
Price
The starting price of the Redmi K40 Pro + in China is around € 470 / $ 567, while the Samsung Galaxy S21 costs around € 800 / $ 965 in the base variant. Unfortunately, the Redmi K40 Pro + is only available in the Chinese market, while the Samsung Galaxy S21 is the only one available globally. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S21 looks better thanks to its waterproof construction, excellent build quality, compact body and great cameras. But if you don't like compact phones and need above average battery life, you should go for the Redmi K40 Pro +.
