Samsung India unveils Galaxy S21 + 5G Kvadrat recycled case

Samsung has joined Apple to remove the charging adapter from the retail box of its flagship Galaxy S21 series, citing environmental concerns. Curiously, the promotion was held shortly after Samsung mocked Apple for removing the adapter. To demonstrate its commitment to the environment, the Korean tech giant has teamed up with a premium Indian textile brand called Kvadrat to launch eco-friendly protective cases for the Galaxy S21 + 5G.

Through the partnership, the two firms will manufacture recyclable mobile accessories and promote sustainable manufacturing methods. Kvadrat claims that the outside, inside and hooks of the protective case are made from recycled materials and using a manufacturing method that protects the environment. In case you don't know, upcycling is the process of converting end-of-life products into new materials that are of higher quality than the original product and also benefit the environment. This process is also known as "creative reuse"

In addition, the company announced that the new protective cases will come in environmentally friendly packaging made entirely from paper that is biodegradable. There is absolutely no plastic that leaves behind non-degradable waste.

When it comes to phone cases, they are made from 500 ml plastic bottles that are melted and transformed into textile strands. Recycled yarn helps reduce the number of plastic bottles that pose a threat to marine life. Samsung also noted that the melting and reforming processes are carried out to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted during manufacturing, compared to traditional material handling processes.

In terms of price, the Galaxy S21 + 5G Kvadrat case has a decent price tag of Rs. 2499 (~ $ 34) and comes in purple and gray. Covers are available in Samsung India online stores and offline.
