Essential Inc. was acquired by Nothing

Carl Pei's Nothing has yet to announce its first product, but the company has been making a lot of headlines lately. Just last week, it announced that it had raised a $15 million investment from Alphabet GV. The latest news is that the British company has acquired Essential Inc. or what's left of it. Yes, it's Essential.

Nothing + Essential

First reported 9to5Google, documents found in the UK Intellectual Property Office now show Essential is now owned by Nothing Technologies Ltd. Karla Pei. The source says the application was filed back in November 2020 before it was completed in the first week of January 2021. Based on this, everything that remains of Essential, including its trademark and logo (without patent information), now belongs to Nothing.

This is definitely exciting news as it gives us the opportunity to see the Essential brand return. The company, founded by Andy Rubin, was one of the shortest smartphone brands to ever exist. The company has released only one smartphone, Essential PH-1but went broke before she could release his successor or any other cool product he developed.

Now that Essential owns Nothing, we hope this is a sign that the Essential brand will rise from the ashes. We are not yet expecting a phone to appear as, as far as we know, it is not on Nothing's plans.

There is no official announcement of the acquisition yet, but we expect the announcement to arrive shortly.
