vivo patents foldable smartphone with extended display

Foldable devices are the future of smartphones. But apart from Samsung и Lenovo -in own Motorola , other mobile phone manufacturers have not yet released such devices. But they will reportedly do so this year. Hence, over the past few months, we have obtained several patents for foldable smartphones such as this new vivo.

According to LetsGoDigital Vivo Mobile Communications filed a design patent with CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) at the end of August 2020. This patent was approved and published on February 12, 2021.

From the sketches, the design of this vivo foldable smartphone is unlike any other. Usually foldable smartphones either fold out to become a tablet, or they have an old school clamshell. But this design patent from vivo is neither.

This foldable phone from live has a rather unusual long display panel that folds down at the bottom. Hence, when folded, it looks like a regular phone. However, in expanded mode, the screen is stretched out and looks strange.

In addition, there is a pentacamera on the back of the device, which also includes a periscope magnifier and a unique LED flash module. Interestingly, the design only has one physical key at the top (maybe the power button) and there are no ports either. Hence, this phone can be charged wirelessly.

With that said, the only benefit we can get from this vivo foldable smartphone design patent is that it is thinner than foldable devices on the market. In addition, its screen can be useful for vloggers as a viewfinder for five cameras.

In any case, we don't expect vivo to release any phone with this design anytime soon.
