Samsung patents dual slider smartphone design

Samsung plans to release up to four foldable display smartphones this year. However, it may also release a smartphone with a movable display, as the patent uncovered by LetsGoDigital , shows Smartphone design with two sliders.

As the name suggests, the smartphone patent which was filed in March 2020 with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) features a retractable display on both sides (left, right). Surprisingly, it also mentions the possibility of a dual screen, that is, the simultaneous movement of the front and back.

The patent was recently published on January 21, 2021, and the report showed XNUMXD color images in collaboration with creator Jermaine Smith. As mentioned above, the front display can be folded, and the back can have a second display or flexible material such as metal film, cloth or leather.

As for the slider mechanism, Samsung used two switches and a rail to move the case inward. Inside the case there is a middle bezel on which the folded display rests. Speaking of which, the report says the screen will be 30% larger when swiveled left and right.

For example, a typical 6 "device will become an 8" smartphone. In addition to this, Samsung plans to use a chain link system covered with a flexible film / cover and a side bezel that curves inward and outward along with the display. Another interesting detail is the rear (flexible), which moves with the bezel and front display, making it unique among other expanding smartphone models.

For selfies, the patent layout does not include a front cam, but talks about integrating a front / rear cam with the same layout. However, the report mentions the possibility that Samsung pre-employs a perforated screen like its older foldable devices.

That being said, the device could also have a new layout for the rear camera of the Galaxy S21, where the side is washed out along with the frame. This isn't the first time we've seen a slider phone from Samsung. Back at CES 2020, the company showed off a phone with a sliding display on one side.

As with every patent, we don't know if Samsung will finalize this design for commercial use, so we'll wait for more details.
