This is not the first time we have heard of this. A couple of weeks ago, we saw Quantum Operation showcase a "spectrometer-based" prototype that works on the interaction of light with the wrist. We already know that companies like Apple have been actively working on this for over a year now.
And to back this up, the report says both of them received their patents and are now working to improve reliability. Apple's patent dates back to 2018, while Samsung partnered with Massachusetts Institute of Technology to publish Raman spectroscopy results in Science Advances.
For the unknown, this is how Light interacts with the chemical bonds of a material. When you shoot laser light onto a substance, it scatters. These different wavelengths can be used to control blood glucose levels more accurately than before. If the report is correct, diabetes patients can finally get rid of the need to constantly prick their fingers with needles.
