The Galaxy S2 (stylized as Galaxy S II) was the successor to the original Galaxy S. Samsung unveiled this smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in February 2011. Android fragmentation has been a known issue for years. It has dropped to a certain level with the introduction of Project Treble, but the problem has not yet been fully resolved. Google and Qualcomm recently announced that some high-performance Snapdragon SoCs starting with the Snapdragon 888 will support up to four years of software updates (3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches).

Although the announcement sounded loud, it really wasn't. Because Samsung has already promised three generations of Android updates for some devices earlier this year and Google [19459005] has been providing the same for pixels since their inception. In any case, improvement is better than nothing.

Hence, the news that the 2 Galaxy S2011 could run Android 11 9 years after its launch is big news. Owners of this phone can try the latest version of Android, which has yet to hit many of the flagship smartphones launched this year.

Android 11 for the Galaxy S2 comes as an unofficial port of LineageOS 18.1 by several senior XDA contributors such as rINanDO, ChronoMonochrome and others. Since the ROM is compatible with Isolated Recovery (IsoRec), it can be directly reprogrammed via Odin. However, users will have to repartition and erase their phone's internal storage for the installation process.

Anyway, if you still have this phone, it can basically be lying around without any use. Therefore, if you are interested in modding, flashing Android 11 on this smartphone is not a bad idea.

According to For XDA Developers , this ROM port is only applicable for Galaxy S2 with model number [19459003] GT-I9100 ... At this point, the screen, wifi, camera and sound are working fine. But RIL is still under development as users can only receive calls and cannot make them. Likewise, GPS, FM radio, screencasting and other features are not working yet.
