Smartphone photography has reached new heights over the past few years with premium flagship smartphones. While companies like Samsung and Huawei are leading the way with innovative new camera features, Apple is lagging behind.
The Cupertino-based giant is expected to opt for a folded zoom camera module for iPhone models launched in 2022. For this, some of the components could supply Samsung.
According to the report, coming from KoreaSamsung will not supply components such as actuators and lenses directly to Apple, but will supply them to LG and then LG Innotek will use them in the minimized zoom camera module.
The folded zoom camera design includes a mirror or prism that is positioned in the middle of the lens to reflect light. It works in a similar way to periscope technology, but allows the camera to take advantage of the phone's length and width, rather than the thickness of the body and the camera bump, for enhanced zoom functionality.
Several smartphone manufacturers including Samsung, Huawei и OPPOhave already implemented this technology in their own flagship smartphones. For Galaxy s20 ultra Samsung's subsidiary, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, provided a folded scaler.
