Apple patented a watchband design with built-in battery

It looks like plans Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), are at an advanced stage of introducing a more durable battery strap into their smartwatches. The Apple Watch is a really good smartwatch packed with many features, but generally lacks battery life. Most Apple watches have a battery life of 18 to 24 hours of continuous standard use.

However, for the tech giant, a dramatic change could occur. Information obtained from the US Patent Office shows that recent patents filed by Apple provide an indication of the company's progress in providing a solution to address the lack of battery life for its smartwatches.

Two recent patents issued by Apple on Tuesday by the US Patent and Trademark Office highlight the ability to fit batteries into an Apple Watch strap. The idea is simple enough - the tape itself will have an inner frame with holes for the battery cells, which will be individually insulated and easily replaced.

Apple Battery Strap

The battery strap (as the new patent is called) will be connected to the watch via contacts and will be charged wirelessly via induction coils wound around one of the battery cells. Patent applications also describe a rubber strap, but the same concept can be used on a metal watch strap using a suitable insulating mechanism.

While we wait for a breakthrough, it should be said that there is no guarantee that such a product will become a reality, although, as is the case with the huge share of patent applications, it may simply indicate an area of ongoing research. Apple previously fiddled with the idea of a battery strap, suggesting that different sensors and batteries could be placed inside each cell in its Link strap, but they haven't come up with a final product with this feature yet.
