Cheaper, more compact Surface laptop in development

According to WindowsCentral, Microsoft is developing a new mid-range Surface Laptop called Sparti that will be aimed at students. Their sources told them that the laptop will have a 12,5-inch screen and its base model will come with a 5th Gen Intel Core i10 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Sparti is expected to be somewhere between the Surface Go and Surface Pro in terms of price, so its price should fall between $399 and $749. It is speculated to cost around $500, with higher configurations starting at $600.

The source adds that even with the affordable price point, Microsoft hasn't skimped on quality, which means we should expect similar build quality with other Surface products. The laptop is also considered lightweight and compact.

Microsoft is expected to announce a list of new products next month, and Sparti may be among them to make it available for the holidays.
