TCL is a name known both in the TV market and in the smartphone market, but in fact it different companies. TCL TVs are manufactured by TCL Electronics and TCL phones are manufactured by TCL Communications. TCL Electronics is now planning acquire the latter as part of its AIxIoT strategy.
The decision was made at an extraordinary general meeting. Acquisition (in fact, merger) in accordance with Business Wire will lead TCL Electronic to add new weapons, including smartphones, tablets, wearable devices and TCL media, in addition to the television business. TCL Electronics also plans to spin off its TV ODM business, which actually makes TVs for Samsung with 2008 years. 
With TCL Electronics, which specializes in TV and mobile communications, it will enter the smart home, internet services and smart commercial display markets, which are worth over RMB 1 trillion. There are big players in the smart home market like Xiaomi and Huawei. It will be interesting to see what new items TCL will release to compete with them.
The business transformation is expected to be completed by the end of August, TCL Electronics CEO Kevin Wang said.
