According to Liu Bo, president of Oppo's Chinese business: “We need to take on chip technology and make it the main driver of our future growth.” Senior management disclosed this information after rumors had been circulating for several weeks, and also mentioned the many problems the company will face. Liu even mentioned that the company will start working with key suppliers to develop and develop its own chipsets for smartphones.

At the moment, the main partners and suppliers of Oppo chips are the American giant chip, Qualcomm, taiwanese MediaTek and South Korean Samsung. The chips of these companies can be found in Oppo mobile phones, however, further news regarding plans for the development of a chip system have not been disclosed. New custom chips will also help differentiate the company's products compared to other companies that use more affordable chips on the market.

Notably, since 2019, the company has been hiring chip engineers and other high-level executives from leading chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm, MediaTek, and many more. This is indicative of her plans for her own chip technology. Interestingly, this news comes just weeks after rival Huawei lost its chip shipments from TSMC due to recent US sanctions. Thus, we can assume that the event started a race for custom-made chips for Oppo to avoid similar complications later.
