MIUI 13 Review - Top 5 Improvements to This New System

At the Xiaomi 12 series launch event, the company also released its latest Android skin, MIUI 13. This system comes after a long wait with the terrible MIUI 12. We can safely say that MIUI 12 is one of the worst systems from Xiaomi. The company has been fighting bugs and malware, and at some point, some users thought their smartphones were bad. However, the company was able to rectify the situation by releasing an enhanced version of MIUI 12.5. Even with this edition, there were still problems. Take Xiaomi 11 for example, this device heats up easily, suffers from frame drops and has an error prone system. However, after updating to MIUI 13, all these problems disappeared. So it was never a hardware issue, but a software issue.

MIUI 13

Until the arrival of MIUI 13, MIUI 9 may have been Xiaomi's best Android skin in years. Without further ado, let's take a look at the new features that MIUI 13 has to offer.

1. MIUI 13 Widgets

The most obvious update to MIUI 13 is probably a number of new widgets. Click the "+" icon in the upper right corner of the screen or pinch two fingers on the desktop to bring up the widget interface. MIUI 13 contains many widgets. In addition to the usual system widgets such as clock, weather, and calendar, there are also many personalized and third-party app widgets.

The biggest difference between these new widgets in MIUI 13 and the original widgets is that they have been specially adapted. The aesthetics are not only better, their practicality is much stronger. Let's take a watch for example. There are very few simple clock widgets in MIUI 12.5. These widgets are so ugly that many users don't really use them. However, MIUI 13 comes with over 30 different styles of watch widgets only. T there is always one here that will grab your attention.

While there aren't many third-party app widgets at the moment, popular apps like  Alipay, NetEase Cloud Music, Weibo, AutoNavi Maps, etc. With these widgets, users can now directly enter the secondary interface of these third party applications by clicking widgets on the desktop. This will undoubtedly improve work efficiency.

The most interesting of these widgets is the "personalization widget". Whether it's personalized signatures, personalized tools or personalized stickers, they are very practical. W e can still improve the look and feel of your mobile desktop even without the help of third-party launchers.

2. MIUI 13 wallpapers

This time, MIUI 13 also adds 10 glass wallpapers and 9 crystal wallpapers to the system wallpapers. This dynamic crystallization wallpaper was filmed using a polarized light microscope, recording the crystallization of various crystals such as vitamin C and citric acid. Although the view is not quite perfect, they are quite interesting to look at.

Glass wallpapers seem more interesting as they can match the color of your smartphone.

3.MIUI 13XiaoAI Assistant

Apart from the previous widgets and wallpapers, MIUI 13 also supports the XiaoAi personalized assistant. To be honest, if you are not a Chinese user, forget about this feature. Now the image, voice and words of XiaoAi awakening can be customized according to the user's preferences. After customization, once you call XiaoAi, the customized image will appear.

4. MIUI 13 Privacy

MIUI 13 comes with very strong privacy protections. This system also offers new useful features, namely face verification protection, document privacy watermarking, and full link fraud protection.

Face-check protection can provide system-level overlap of images other than the user's face. This is achieved through intelligent face recognition during video calls or face verification. This allows the user to show only the face and not the entire upper body. The occlusion effect is very good, it only follows the face and ignores the upper body.

Certificate Privacy Watermark allows users to quickly add a watermark to sensitive documents such as ID cards to limit the use of a certificate. This feature also works great and adds watermarks quickly.

As for the latest privacy feature, full anti-fraud protection, we cannot confirm its effectiveness. However, this feature allows the system to go through the entire link and provides several protections such as "electronic fraud warning", "official identification", "fraudulent application installation intercept", and "transmission protection". This makes telecommunications fraud in this system virtually impossible.

5. Fluency and stability of MIUI 13

Theoretically, MIUI 13 has improved by 15-52% compared to the improved version of MIUI 12.5. Compared with MIUI 12.5 enhanced version, system app fluency has been improved by 20-26%. There are also a number of high-frequency use cases where frame drop rates exceed 90%. The system not only handles basic scenarios such as full-screen gestures, but also directs computing resources towards the base system for basic third-party applications. This greatly improves the fluency of these applications.

In practice, the improvement in fluency and stability is the most surprising aspect of this system. Based on the user experience, do you enter the desktop from the lock screen, swipe to load an image, or interrupt the app opening halfway through, the feedback is very fast. MIUI 13 also solves the problem of slow image loading in the software dual open mode. This is one of the most obvious improvements in MIUI 13. However, only users who have tried this mode on both systems will notice it.

Conclusion

To be honest, the MIUI 13 system makes your smartphone feel new, especially if you have used MIUI 12 on a smartphone. According to Xiaomi, MIUI 13 solves at least 400 problems. Of course, after updating the original MIUI 12.5 extended version to MIUI 13, the new system may cause users discomfort. This is due to the fact that it is new and you need to get used to it.

However, it is important to note that MIUI 13 has fewer apps that support forced dark mode than MIUI 12.5. There are almost no bugs in this new system because a few bugs do not affect the daily use of the users. Although the new features of MIUI 13 are limited this time around, the improvement in stability and fluency is huge. After more than a year of condemnation, MIUI is finally no longer a major shortcoming of Xiaomi.
