Xiaomi confirms Foxconn has received permission to resume production in India

 

India is now under expanded control to curb proliferation coronavirus in the country. In this regard, there is uncertainty about allowing smartphone manufacturers to open factories to resume production.

 

But there is good news for Xiaomi. Muralikrishnan B, Chief Operating Officer, Xiaomi India has confirmed that Foxconn, the contract manufacturer of the company, has received permission to resume production at its Andhra Pradesh plant.

The company says it expects its plants to operate at constant capacity by June in India. Xiaomi has already resumed smartphone sales in India through offline and online channels and will serve demand in the green and orange zones.

 

For those who do not know FoxconnAlso known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, along with other Wistron OEMs, it was necessary to suspend operations at its manufacturing facilities in accordance with government guidelines during the COVID-19 lockout.

 
 

This event was a great relief for Xiaomi, given that almost all of its smartphones sold in India are locally produced. Muralikrishnan claims that nearly 99 percent of Xiaomi smartphones sold in India are made in the country.

 

Although Foxconn has received permission from Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, there is no news of another company in Sriperumbudur, Chennai. Foxconn Chennai also manufactures a smartphone iPhone XR.

 

Wistron and other ecosystem companies in Karnataka also received government approval to resume production. However, companies like Dixon, Samsung, OPPO and Lava, with plants in the Noida Noida and Tamil Nadu regions, are still in limbo due to a lack of clarity regarding the start of operations.
