Sony launches new modular displays similar to those used in The Mandalorian

Sony just announced that it will soon start selling its new series of modular displays. These displays can be used to create digital movie sets, similar to the technology also used to create the popular Star Wars series Mandalorian.

According to the official ad by Sony (Via TheVerge), the company is about to start selling its Mandalorians as virtual displays. The technology resembles the digital kits used to create The Mandalorian by Industrial Light & Magic and Epic Games. These displays are part of the line of Crystal LEDs, which come in modular panels that use MicroLEDs. Simply put, modularity allows these displays to be combined into one giant display using only a set of panels and a controller. This helps create virtual sets from displays only.

Earlier this week, Sony announced new modular displays that are part of its latest B-Series. The new panels are marketed for filmmaking and are anti-reflective and are also pretty bright. These displays can run at around 1800 nits, which is even higher than the Apple Pro Display XDR 1600 nits. This high brightness also gives movie studios another advantage, as it can offer more realism to the set, as the brightness helps in creating lighting that makes it appear as if the actors are actually in the background scene.

The new displays also support high frame rates and 3D, according to Sony. It also provides a higher degree of flexibility. The company aims to launch new modular displays by the summer. Although the official price has not yet been announced. However, given that these are professional grade products, we can assume that the average consumer probably does not even consider buying them due to the inflated prices.
