Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 - new name and new logo

Not so long ago, MediaTek officially released the flagship Dimensity 9000 processor. Initially, according to rumors, it was called Dimensity 2000. But it seems that at the very last moment the company changed its mind and naming rules. However, this is not the only top chip that has a different name. As you know, Qualcomm's next generation of Snapdragon 888 series processors will be called Snapdragon 8 gen 1.

As a rule, we expected the next Snapdragon 888 model to be called the Snapdragon 898. But it will be called the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 1”. This caused a stir on the web. But this is not the last story. As the Weibo tester shows , the chip will be renamed again. According to him, the new name is Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1.

The newly released name is more complex than it used to be. Many users are very confused about this name. We hope Qualcomm will provide some kind of explanation in the near future.

Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 parameters

As for the specifications, nothing seems to have changed. The chip still uses Samsung's 4nm process technology and has a three-cluster architecture. The CPU has 1 X2 super large core @ 3,0GHz + 3 * 2,5GHz large core + 4 1,79GHz small core and the GPU is Adreno 730.

Today AnTuTu also revealed a new machine based on this chip. According to the test results, the CPU sub-score of the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 prototype is about 23W, which is about 20% higher than Snapdragon 888 Plus at the same frequency. The GPU score is around 44W and the score is increased by about 40%. In addition, it integrates the Snapdragon X65 main band. Thus, we are dealing with a next-generation model, and not a slightly modernized version.

Qualcomm will announce this on December 1st. As for the 5nm Dimensity 7000, @DCS claims this chip will arrive after the first quarter of next year. Qualcomm will also have an iterative upgrade of the Snapdragon 7 series processor. However, a few days ago Qualcomm already officially announced that Snapdragon would become an independent brand in the future. At that time, Snapdragon will no longer appear in parallel with the Qualcomm brand.

According to Twitter blogger @kuba, the Snapdragon 8gx Gen1 logo was sourced from a test version of Qualcomm's temporary website. This does not mean that we are dealing with the final version of the logo.
