New Snapdragon Chip with 150W Fast Charging Support

30 November Qualcomm will unveil its 2022 flagship rival. The new chipset will support Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This is a major name change from the identity established over the years. To be honest, I still don't know if I prefer this Snapdragon 898, but anyway. The new chipset will significantly improve performance and also be more efficient thanks to Samsung's 4nm manufacturing process. According to the source, Digital Chat Station, there will be other aspects to this SoC that will impress Android OEMs and customers. From the looks of it, the new chipset will be able to handle 150W fast charging right out of the box. However, this may not benefit the first smartphones coming with it.

According to a very reliable Chinese analyst, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will support the 150W fast charging standard. However, the first blocks of the chip will not support this feature. The reason is unclear, but we assume it will directly affect the Xiaomi 12 and Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. Of course, this won't be a big problem for Xiaomi.

After all, the company already has its own 120W charging technology and that pretty much satisfies most of its customers. Motorola, on the other hand, won't get over the big hurdles. Its upcoming flagship will be equipped with 68W fast charging. In any case, this is still a major step forward for Motorola. Sure, Lenovo (the big company behind the Motorola brand) still has more to offer, but it still doesn't find it necessary for Motorola.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 898

First Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 smartphones will not feature 150W charging

According to Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm will provide support for speeds up to 150W in the second batch of chips, which will go on sale in late 2021. As such, it will work on devices released in the first quarter of 2022. charge the batteries in just 10 minutes. Of course it depends on the capacity, but we can assume that it is 4500mAh - 5000mAh, which is pretty much what modern flagship smartphones are currently offering.

Qualcomm currently uses the Quick Charge 5 standard. It delivers charging speeds from 0 to 50 percent in 5 minutes thanks to what is known as "dual charge" technology. It includes 12 separate voltage, current and temperature protections to ensure flawless operation. We expect the new standard to get a new version with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 to deliver those 150W charging speeds.

Curiously, Samsung is said to be using 25W fast charging for its upcoming Galaxy S22 series flagships. And that will be surprisingly behind the 2022 flagships. Anyway, there is hope for Snapdragon variants.
