Nokia 5.4 vs POCO M3: feature comparison

HMD Global is a major player in the smartphone market, but is often underestimated. If you want a phone with stock Android and long-term updates, even in the entry-level segment, you need to go for a Nokia phone. This is the biggest advantage of Nokia devices, but not the only one. Nokia 5.4 recently debuted in the Indian market with a very attractive price and quite good performance. Here we compared it to one of the best devices in the same price segment and the best device with the same chipset as Nokia 5.4: we are talking about the best buy LITTLE M3 from Xiaomi.

Design

You shouldn't buy this affordable device if you want a premium design, but the Nokia 5.4 remains a pretty sleek phone. Despite being an entry-level phone, it has a perforated display with narrow bezels and a lightweight body. It is more compact and even thinner than POCO M3 and also more raffinate. The POCO M3 is definitely uglier, with a larger camera module and a waterdrop notch making it look like an old phone. While the POCO M3 has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, the Nokia 5.4 has a scanner on the back.

Display

If you look at the quality of the displays, then there is not much difference between Nokia 5.4 and Xiaomi POCO M3. Both feature an IPS panel with HD + resolution (720x1560 pixels) and a typical brightness of 400 nits. The level of detail is about the same as the color rendition. What has changed is the display diagonal: you get 6,39 inches with the Nokia 5.4 and a wider 6,53-inch panel with the Xiaomi POCO M3. This is what makes the Xiaomi POCO M3 more comfortable for power users, but the HD + resolution may disappoint them.

Technical specifications and software

Nokia 5.4 and Xiaomi Poco M3 share the same chipset: Qualcomm's Snapdragon 662. But with the Xiaomi POCO M3, you really get the best memory configuration. The 3GB Xiaomi POCO M128 variants come with built-in UFS 2.2 storage and up to 6GB of RAM, while the Nokia 5.4 is limited to 4GB of RAM and doesn't have that fast internal storage. On the other hand, Nokia 5.4 is more interesting in terms of software: it has a standard version of Android, which is likely to receive faster and more constant updates from the manufacturer.

Camera

On paper Nokia 5.4 has the best camera setup. It's pretty much the same as the POCO M3, with one difference: the Nokia 5.4 has a 5MP ultra-wide sensor, while its competitor doesn't. In addition, Nokia 5.4 has the best 16MP selfie camera to take better selfies, while its opponent has only 8MP on the front. After checking out the specs on paper, there seems to be no doubt that the Nokia 5.4 is the best camera phone, but only if you don't mind ultra-wide photos and selfies.

Battery

The Xiaomi POCO M3 has a much larger battery than the Nokia 5.4: its capacity is 6000 mAh. And considering that the Xiaomi POCO M3 has characteristics similar to Nokia 5.4, with the same chipset and almost the same display characteristics, the battery life is increased in all cases. That's not all: the POCO M3 supports 18W fast charging and reverse charging, whereas the Nokia 5.4 has none of those features. Its battery is smaller and has standard charging.

Price

Nokia 5.4 sells for an initial price of Rs. $ 13 / $ 999 in India (we are talking about the base variant with 193GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage) and the base configuration of the Xiaomi Poco M64 costs Rs. $ 3 / $ 10 Nokia 999 is the best phone outside of batteries, but the Xiaomi POCO M151 has a more affordable price tag. It's not an easy choice considering the long battery life and fast charging offered by the POCO M5.4, but considering that it saves us money, we would.
