Huawei P50 Pocket spotted in a hands-on video

Huawei tomorrow will unveil its next foldable smartphone, the P50 Pocket, which will complete the company's series of announcements this year. The point is that it will be a clamshell with a flexible screen. We have already seen how the new product will look in the renders, and today a video showing the Huawei P50 Pocket live was posted online.

We were shown a folded smartphone in black. It is quite compact and has rounded corners. The logo of the company is applied to the hinges; on the back side, attention is drawn to the round block of the main camera with three image sensors and an additional color display.

According to insider reports, the Huawei P50 Pocket will be based on the Kirin 9000 chip, offering a flexible 6,85-inch AMOLED display and a 1-inch diagonal of the second miniature screen. The rear camera received three image sensors, where the key Sony IMX766 is 50 megapixels and is complemented by sensors of 13 megapixels (ultra-wide) + 8 megapixels (telephoto, 3x optical zoom).

The battery capacity will be 4100 mAh, 66W fast wired charging technology is present. The Huawei P50 Pocket must have HarmonyOS 2.1 installed. Presumably the device will cost about $ 1570.

Samsung and Huawei claim 99% of the foldable smartphone market

Foldable smartphones are becoming more and more popular in the smartphone market. Fortunately, these devices are getting cheaper, so more people can now afford them. The popularity of foldable phones far exceeds market expectations. However, only a handful of manufacturers currently have foldable phones. Overall shipments of foldable phones increased in the third quarter of 2021, according to DSCC; up 215% over the previous quarter. Sales of these premium smartphones are also growing 480% year over year.

However, the report shows that Samsung and Huawei accounts for 99% of the shipment of foldable smartphones. Among them, Samsung holds 93% of the market, while Huawei - only 6%. These two brands have virtually monopolized the entire foldable smartphone market. Huawei would have a lot more, but the US ban does indeed restrict the Chinese manufacturer.

The rise in shipments is actually mainly due to the Galaxy Z Flip3, which Samsung launched in September. Its price is different from most foldable phones and it is much cheaper than others on the market. The fact is that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 has become the most popular foldable smartphone; they are followed by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Huawei Mate X2 4G and the 5G version.
