Huawei plans to launch HarmonyOS on over 2021 million devices in 300

Last year, a few months after the United States banned Google's Android operating system, Huawei launched its own HarmonyOS (also known as HongMeng OS), and new devices running on it are hitting the market.

At the recent Sina Tech event in China Wang Chenglu, head of software at Huawei Consumer Business Software Department, has revealed some information about the company's plans for this new operating system.

HarmonyOS

He said this software is not a copy Google Android or Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), iOS, which are only for smartphones. Unlike these operating systems, HarmonyOS is designed for a wide variety of devices, from smartphones to the Internet of Things.

Explaining the reason, he adds that smartphone shipments have been declining over the past couple of years, and the pandemic COVID-19 worsened the market. He also adds that smartphone use has reached saturation point.

While the ecosystem of devices surrounding smartphones is increasing, such as wearables and smart home products, the problem is that almost all of them run on different programs. Huawei aims to solve this problem with HarmonyOS, allowing users to have a consistent experience across devices.

He also added this contract to what most reports indicate, HarmonyOS was not developed as an alternative Android after the Chinese company was banned from using the Google system. He says Huawei started working on its own operating system in 2016.

HarmonyOS was designed as a single system, designed to be used on a wide range of equipment - from small to large, from consumer to enterprise, as well as to be compatible with various platforms. The company has already released an updated version of the same, dubbed HarmonyOS 2.0.

The Chinese giant now hopes to have its operating system installed on 200 million devices by the end of this year. Huawei will also allow other companies to use HarmonyOS on its devices, which should be around 100 million devices, with the goal of reaching 300-400 million devices this year.
