Huawei Mate 40 series will receive the HarmonyOS beta update for the first time on December 16

HarmonyOS, proprietary operating system from Huaweiis finally appearing on smartphones. Its beta version will be available from December 16, 2020, and Mate 40 series will be the first to receive the update.

The news comes after Mai Yumin, VP of Software at Huawei, announced that the beta version of HarmonyOS (or China's HongMeng OS) will be rolling out to smartphones on December 16. The CEO also added that the flagship Mate 40 series will be the first priority for the upgrade. For those who don't know, the company also plans to gradually replace the Android platform with HarmonyOS.

Although support for Android apps is also possible, it will depend on the new OS. Another official also previously stated that more than 90 percent of Huawei phone models currently on the market will be updated to HarmonyOS, but it remains to be seen if this will actually happen in the near future.

For now, the new OS from the Chinese tech giant can be seen in many other products besides smartphones. This includes certain iterations in cars and IoT (Internet of Things) products.
