Pixel 6: Google Pauses December Update Due to Multiple Bugs

Google's first major update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro was slow and came with a number of bugs. The California giant announced that it has paused rollouts of the December 2021 update to investigate reports of call disconnects.

The company released the December update to Pixel 6 owners earlier this month, but the messages quickly caught its attention. Some users have claimed that after installing the update, their device randomly disconnects or drops calls, making it difficult to use their smartphone.

Google confirmed that it is suspending the December update for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro due to various bugs reported by users. Most likely Google would have found problems and given the time it took to release the fix, the update won't be available until the end of January.

The December update allowed Pixel 6 owners to get a maximum wireless charging speed of 23W with the new Pixel Stand 2 charger, but it will take at least a month for smartphones to be fully compatible with it.

This also means that most Pixel 6 owners, with the exception of people who have already received the buggy update, will be stuck at the security patch level from November 2021 until an as-yet-unknown date at the end of the month. This is not great news, but preventing people from calling from their phones is probably not the best alternative.

If you've already received the update and are having issues, Google recommends performing a factory reset back to the November 2021 update. We hope that the next update in January 2022 will fix all bugs reported by users. Some have also recently encountered a bug that prevents smartphones from charging properly.

Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro refuse to charge

We are all watching the development of the series "Problems in Google Pixel 6 ". Not a week goes by without problems appearing in new Google products. Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners recently complained that smartphones refuse to charge.

As it turned out, it was not smartphones that were to blame, but incompatible cables. There have been user complaints on the forums that 6th Gen Pixel devices won't charge; when used with a range of third party chargers and cables. So far, there are no such problems with other devices, but everything works fine.

This is due to the use of cables not certified for USB Power Delivery; and Pixel 6 or 6 Pro charging adapters. Poor quality accessories were probably used.

This does not mean that this behavior of smartphones is something unpredictable or unusual. On the google support page explicitly states that Pixel phones may not work with some cables. This appears to protect the battery from potential damage that could arise from particularly slow chargers; or cables that do not conform to the USB-C specification.
