MacBook Air M2: what to expect? Should we wait?

Apple Macbook fans in the UK and other regions of the world are looking forward to the next Macbook product. The MacBook Air M1 will turn two years old in September, which means there will most likely be an update as it features Apple's first-generation chip. And instead, we expect to see the alleged 2022 MacBook Air, which is expected to arrive this year either in the spring or fall.

Over the past 12 months, a mixture of alleged data breaches and rumors have circulated suggesting that Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), really working on a successor to what is now the entry-level MacBook. . That's why we've rounded up the most important updates on offer for the new 2022 MacBook Air.

Rumor has it that the 2022 MacBook Air will have a new design. Although the MacBook Air M1 had a brand new and interesting chipset, its design was probably a bit older, in keeping with the look and feel of the 2016 MacBook Air.

So the rumors are touting a new design that could keep the thin wedge shape of the current Air but build on it with more rounded edges, thinner screen bezels, and maybe even a display notch like the current 2021 MacBook Pro models. , although the latter claim has been debunked by other leaks

An improved keyboard and a set of Thunderbolt 4 ports are also available. We'd love to see an SD card reader, but it may remain exclusive to MacBook Pro laptops.

The second biggest part of the 2021 MacBook Air upgrade is expected to be the Apple M2 chip. Instead of following in the footsteps of the Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max silicon; The M2 will prioritize efficiency over raw power.

Allegedly tuned to use a 4nm manufacturing process rather than the 5nm process used by its predecessor; we can expect more performance and more efficiency from the M2; thanks to the increase in silicon wafer transistors.

The leaked data shows the M2 offers 12 processor cores, four more than the eight-core M1. The GPU is said to be able to go from seven and eight cores to 16 cores. It is not known how legitimate this information is, since these figures give the M2 specifications similar to the M1 Pro and M1 Max, although the performance is not entirely dependent on the number of cores.

Either way, expect the M2 chip to be a notable upgrade from the original M1; even if it results in longer battery life for the 2022 MacBook Air compared to its predecessor.

Rumors about the MacBook Air this spring are not as strong as other products. It makes some sense. WWDC in June will no doubt update MacOS; with a developer beta shortly thereafter and a public release in September/October. During this time, we expect to see the next generation MacBook Air.
