HMD Global Nokia smartphones may ditch Android One for their own UI

Nokia has licensed its name to Hmd Global Oy to sell Nokia smartphones. Since then, the latter has been releasing devices in different price categories, but recently has struggled to gain ground in the face of fierce competition from Chinese brands. Despite this, the company was able to work with Google to provide clean software under the Android One Program. This may now change as HMD Global is hiring a new UX designer for its Android phones.

As reported by XDA, HMD Global , seem to be, looking for a new User Experience Designer. In a job listing posted on LinkedIn, the company expects an employee to focus on things like developing GUI elements such as menus, tabs and widgets, designing UI layouts and prototypes, creating original graphic designs, identifying and fixing UX issues, and T. D. [19459005]

While it doesn't say anything about designing a new user interface with a link to the tooltip, the XDA report says this is a step towards building your own user interface.

As mentioned above, smartphones Nokia operated by HMD Global were mainly dependent on the Google program Android One... They are generally designed to provide a near-standard Android experience without unnecessary software, faster and more regular updates for up to two generations of Android updates.

However, a lot has been happening at the HMD Global camp lately. Ahead of its April 8 launch event, which is expected to update the smartphone naming convention, its CEO and VP of North America, Juho Sarvikas, announced his departure from the company.

Going back to Nokia's description of how it works, I would assume it also has to tinker with some of its own apps. Nokia phones come with their own camera, My Phone apps, like Motorola, have their own, but most of the UI is pure with Google Apps only.

Anyway, let's wait for specific information to find out if Nokia will actually ditch Android in the future.
