The Mate 9 series already has three successors, but Huawei still releases phone updates. A new update has begun in China that will add new features to the 2016 phones.

The update comes in the form of EMUI 9.1.0.228 and has a size of more than 3,20 GB. According to the change log, the update has a new “Screen Sharing” feature that allows you to share your screen with a friend or relative during a video call. This is convenient if you need help with your device.

Another feature that the update brings is the intelligent charging mode, which explores your use and continues to use it when charging. Intelligent charging mode will prevent recharging when the device is connected overnight. This is due to the automatic deceleration of the charging process before it reaches 100%. Intelligent charging should slow down the aging process of the battery and extend its life.

The update also contains a security patch, released in May 2020, for the Mate 9 series, protecting it from vulnerabilities.

Mate 9 series includes Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, Mate 9 Porsche Design and Mate 9 Lite. The first three phones run on the Kirin 960 processor, while the lite version (sold as Honor 6X and Huawei GR5 2017) in some markets has the Kirin 665 chipset.
